The Comax Rally
As I recall we started out from outside Rafferty Newmans old
Workshops in a convoy heading towards London, At the front was
Trevor Aspin guiding us with a compass on his wrist, all was
going fine till we hit Guilford, outside the Little Chef there
were some traffic lights, some nice person had dropped oil over
the road and David Seymour went for a tumble, the police turned
up and noticed that Dave didn't have any L plates, they wouldnt
let him continue until he had got some, for some reason he had
to go back to Gosport to get some. We all waited for him to
return after a few hours he reappeared and off we set
again.
My GP then cut out I couldn't find out why so I
opened the fuel cap to see if the tank was empty, it was
full so I tried to start it and woopee it burst into life,
of we went again, by this time it was getting late my bike
stopped again it sounded like lack of fuel so I peered into
the tank again and noticed the breather hole was blocked,
having cleared it we moved of again. We hit London around
midnight and were completely lost driving round Trafalgar
Square, Trevor noticed a Policeman and asked directions, (
in those days they were older than us) we were directed the
wrong way up Oxford Street, it was one way, we eventually
came out of London wnd with the help of Trev's compass we
were on the road to Essex, we eventually got to the rally
site around 6 in the morning much to the annoyance of the
other competitors. We put up the tents and wandered of
through the park to find food, there was breakfast being
served up at a cafe in the woods joy, Mungo Jerry was
blaring out singing In the Summertime. The rally went well
as I recall
