The Southend Scooter Rally 1970
By Marten Holdway
It was a long old drive to the Southend Rally, Seaweed and I
set off I drove up on my GP225 with a tent tied to the
Legshields, and Seaweed drove his series 1 with series 2
handlebars. We eventually arrived at around 8.00 in the
evening, looking forward to a weekends fun and frolics. The
camp site was right on the coast in a large field behind a
small Railway Station.
After pitching the tent with the rest of the Solent City
Guys we set about investigating the area. We went down to the
seafront and walked up the pier, big mistake its a long way, by
the time we got back it was quite late, so we drove back to the
camp site. The Italians had a large group of guys all very
smart in matching uniforms.

The rally was a laugh doing all the riding on
grass was a bit slippery as no one had Knobblys.
The Southend Seafront was as glitzy as we
imagined, we had a few hours at the funfair, and some
Candifloss I seem to remember that the Lambretta people
had a large bingo game organised. We decided to go for Fish and
Chips instead.
By the way I don't think that Stephanie has
ever recovered from the world thinking that she was in the
club, boy did she have some explaining to do.
LOOK WHAT IV'E FOUND
I was searching for a power supply for
an old computer and I found this lot of priceless
papers.
