Thruxton
Thruxton was my first race meeting I was riding my 225 GP
in the race I took of the Panels and the front legshields so as
not to damage them if I fell off. Needless to say I didn't do
that well but it was fun.
The Thruxton
meeting saw the first and only outing of Les Raffertys
Villiers powered Sidecar.
He made a trip
over to Portsmouth to a Motor bike shop run by 2 brothers
they had a shed with crates of old bikes still greased up
from the 50's they never got rid of them, sadly its gone now
and all the old bikes to. Anyway they had a scooter Dayton
Albatross with a 250cc Villiers twin cylinder
engine.
Les tuned it to
the hilt and gave a splendid paint job it looked fabulous in
its yellow and blue livery, on the morning of the race the
bike was kept under a blanket to keep up the suspense.
Finally it was unveiled with a flourish to the gasps of the
watching crowd, it raced blew everyone away and was promptly
banned for being not in the spirit of scooter racing, a
great shame.
